Firmware update proposal relating to improved visibility of the
Exposure display on the LCD screen of the Nikon CoolPix E990
.

Problem:
The Exposure display on the LCD screen currently (E990 V1.0) makes use
of open and closed white rectangles as a graphic display. If the
scene is brightly lit and/or contains white areas, the Exposure display
can be difficult or impossible to read.

Suggested solution:
The firmware be updated such that either the Exposure display will
be displayed with a user-selectable background setting.

While the hollow boxes are convenient and useful for allowing
more of the intended scene to be visible on the LCD screen, in
brightly lit scenes or those with bright white areas, the Exposure
display can be difficult or impossible to read. The photographer
should have the option, via a menu selection, to set the Exposure
display one of three ways: a) place the Exposure display on a
solid, dark background colour; b) have the Exposure display
use a solid colour center for the display rectangles or c)
display the Exposure display as it is currently, with open and
closed rectangles. Possibly only one of a) or b) should be offered.
(Reverse-video of the Exposure display is not sufficient on its own
as demonstrated in the simulated examples below.)
